People, us, we, tend to create a universe with characters from different stories that coexist with one another in a bigger universe. A cohesive world of stories. So, the world of Alice in "Alice in Wonderland" exists in the same world as with Dorothy Gales in "Wizard of Oz". In film, it is a common practice to allude to another film through easter eggs so, in the end, we get an idea of a bigger universe of films. "Bad Boys" is a movie. It's a movie in "Hot Fuzz", being about action films yet in another film, the characters exist as themselves. Take this and think of Harry Potter and His Dark Materials. In Lyra's World, Harry could and does exist, especially when witches already do. This means Hogwarts exists in some way in her world, just different. The biggest difference is that Harry, James, Snape, and all, would not need a Patronus charm or the need for Animagi because of the Deamon. It would take the form of the stag. It seems that of anything that the characters in Oxford studies are the compasses. There are 6.
On the compass, or as it is called The Alethiometer, there are a total of 36 images like a Lute, Alpha/Omega, Horse, and Beehive. The idea is that each image does not mean one thing. A Dagger is not just a cutting tool, A compass is not just a tool to draw with-it is a tool for math. Not 1, 2, 3 meanings, it can go on forever.

and so on.
One of these 36 images is the Cauldron. Surely the one image that would draw attention to a Hogwartian or Ilvermornite or etc.
What does this symbolize?
A cauldron is associated with magic, brewing. A cooking item for soup, or a Kettle. It is also associated with the Goddess, Cerridwen of Welsh lore.
Upon looking closely, the pot is a U shape but can be seen as a V, which is common to mean a Woman's womb. It also carries things. Men are the opposite. so together: X.
Wisdom
Craftsmanship
Holly Grail in King Arthur
Rebirth
Most images of witches are females, largely associated with females more so than men; which are actually called "werewolves" due to their animalistic nature.
Earth (tool)
It is used or can be used as plant pots. Seeding, growth, herbs. As one uses water to grow so birth and life. This takes it back to the Womb of a mother symbology.
In Harry Potter, it is a tool for potions or chemistry; mixing Wormwood and Dittany with the Gallbladder of a Boar. Hermionie would be writing a long paper on the significances of this image.
